PARASYMPATHIKUS

An interdisciplinary encounter of dance and design that places dance scenes in public spaces.

Amidst the urban hustle, two dancers find what many long for: a place of silence, a shell, a home. Their tool: six movable surfaces made of cardboard, which they playfully, lightly, and protectively accompany as structures that oscillate between organism and architecture.

PARASYMPATHIKUS unfolds as a quiet yet compelling experimental arrangement in public space. In a place usually characterized by movement and purpose, where lingering is often tied to consumption and fleeting entertainment – the dancers allow themselves to settle in with their objects and take their time. While the bodies and objects continuously transform in and with each other, the dancers play with the ambivalent needs of visibility and retreat, order and disorder, protection and vulnerability – fragile, tentative, open. Thus, a paradoxical gesture emerges – retreat as an invitation to surrender to the need for rest, home, and interior space even in the outside world.

What do we need to feel secure – to feel at home?
